A refractometer is a device that determines the physical properties of a liquid by measuring the refractive index at the boundary of the medium.
This allows you to specify:
– battery charge level
– Freezing point of propylene glycol or ethyl alcohol based fluids
– Freezing point of the washer fluid.
Professional refractometer for measuring the operating fluids of cars, trucks and buses. It is designed to determine the frosting temperature of the washer fluid, propylene glycol cooling and ethyl glycol. It also gives an electrolyte density range.
The kit includes a sampling pipette and a cleaning cloth. All packed in a solid plastic box.
How to use
Fluid measurement:
– Pick up a small amount of liquid with the pipette.
– Raise the dispersion plate and apply 2-3 drops of liquid to the prism of the instrument.
Lower the dispersion plate to distribute the liquid to be evenly distributed on the surface of the prism. There should be no air bubbles that may upset the measurement.
– Wait about 30 seconds for the liquid to reach the instrument temperature and then guide the diffuser plate towards the light source, looking at the eyepiece.
If the image in the eyepiece is unclear, adjust the focus by rotating the focus ring. The boundary between the dark and light areas will determine the properties of a given fluid read on the appropriate scale.
If the test is subjected to battery electrolyte, the reading should be carried out on the scale marked with the battery symbol. The result is expressed in kg / l, and the scale is additionally described by the battery charge levels. If the limit falls within the “GOOD” area, it means that the battery does not require charging; “FAIR” – charging is not yet necessary but may be required soon; “RECHARGE” – battery is required.
If a propylene glycol-based fluid is subjected to testing, the freezing point can be read on the scale described under “PROPYLENE”.
If the test is subjected to a liquid based on ethyl alcohol, the freezing point can be read on the scale described “ETHYLENE”.
If a windscreen washer fluid is subjected to testing, the freezing point can be read on the scale indicated by the washer symbol.
Instrument calibration:
Warning! Calibration should be done at an ambient temperature of 20 ° C. Also ensure that the instrument has reached ambient temperature. Before each measurement check the correct measurement. For this purpose use distilled water and measure as described above. The border of the light and dark areas should coincide with the line marked “WATERLINE”. If this is not the case, then you must do so by turning the calibration screw with the supplied screwdriver.
Properly calibrated the instrument should allow measurements at ambient temperatures ranging from -10 ° C to +50 ° C.
